Electronic Arts wants you to have the opportunity to try some hockey before you buy.

The publisher revealed today that it will launch a demo for NHL 14 on Aug. 20. The trial will go live on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. EA will release the game Sept. 10 only on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

In the demo, gamers will get the chance to try out a standard match as well as the special NHL 94 Anniversary Mode that applies the controls and camera angles of that classic sports game to NHL 14. The demo will also preview the Ultimate Team Tournament mode, which has players collecting players and competing against others online.

Electronic Arts announced four sports titles for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next-gen systems, and NHL 14 isn’t one of them. That didn’t stop the game from winning the Game Critic’s award for Best Sports Game at E3. Gamers looking for next-gen hockey will likely have to wait until NHL 15 hits sometime next year.
