Warhammer’s latest video game is an adaptation of one of its most popular books.

Eisenhorn: Xenos is out now on Steam and the iOS App Store for $20 and $10, respectively. It retells the first book in author Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn trilogy in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Through that narrative, players will experience combat and interactions with other characters as Gregor Eisenhorn, an Ordo Xenos inquisitor. Warhammer publisher Games Workshop has amplified its efforts to push its products into the $99.6 billion video game market, and this is an example of that.

Warhammer isn’t new to video games. Publisher Games Workshop has worked with Sega on the strategy adventure Total War: Warhammer, with developer Fatshark on action shooter Warhammer: The End Times — Vermintide, and more. But studio Pixel Hero Games, which produced Eisenhorn, is setting its project apart by diving deeper into the plot.

“There aren’t a lot of Warhammer games that let you experience the action up close,” Pixel Hero Games studio head Nader Alikhani said. “So it has been our personal challenge to really bring the universe to life from a unique personal perspective — that of the conflicted inquisitor Eisenhorn.”

Considering this is a direct re-creation of Abnett’s work, Alikhani and his team are hoping to bring fans of the books into the game.

As the studio head explained, “We’ve put a lot of effort towards making our rendition of this character and the world he inhabits into something that fans will really recognize and appreciate.”
