If you want to truly rule the wasteland of Fallout 4, you need to experiment with some more powerful power armor. We’re gonna help you do just that.

While you can get a powerful T-60 suit from some of the factions, what you really want is the prototype X-01 Power Armor that is ultra-rare. But don’t worry, we can help you find some!

What you should know first

Whether or not you can get X-01 armor will depend on a random number generator. The Fallout 4 community is saying you that you’ll need to reach at least level 28 before you’ll have the chance of getting X-01. But the higher your level the better the chance you’ll get a full set of armor with neat perks and improvements. I was level 40, and I had no trouble getting my X-01.

But if you want to force the random-number generator to go in your favor, you can always do a quicksave before entering the following locations.

Where to look

Location one

The first place you should go is to the far west side of the map in the glowing sea. If you start at Sanctuary Hills and start walking south, you’ll eventually get there. But the specific place you’re looking for is called the “Abandoned Shack.”

Make sure you have a hazmat suit or lots of Rad-X because the glowing sea isn’t paradise. Of course, once you get to the abandoned shack, you’ll find that it is actually a military installation filled with synths. If you are friendly with the Institute, you can just trot down to the bottom floor and pick up your armor. If not, fight your way through. Either way, the X-01 is tucked away in the corner on the ground floor. Oh, and look out by the one active computer monitor for a bonus magazine.

Location two

The second location you should check is called 35 Court, and it doesn’t show up on the map. I think the easiest way to find it is to go to the Custom House Tower on the east side of the map. Walk west from there until you see a bit of a fork in the road. Take the left fork that has more light, and you’ll see 35 Court.

Here’s what the entrance looks like.

Once inside, take the elevator to the left up to the roof off the building. Your presence will set off an alarm, and you’ll have to fight off high-level robots. They’ll come from the doors on each side, so try setting down some pulse mines while you have the chance.

After you kill the bots, hit the buttons in the little alcoves they were hiding in, and the door protecting the power armor will open. I found a full set of Mark III X-01 Power Armor, which I am excited about. Hope you find something equivalent.

Enjoy, and let us know if you stumble across any more X-01 suits.
