Rockfish Games is the latest developer moving from the rough-and-tumble world of mobile gaming to the PC — and it’s using Kickstarter to do so.

The company launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign today for Everspace, a roguelike 3D space shooter built with Unreal Engine 4. It is asking for $244,285. Rockfish previously developed the critically acclaimed Galaxy on Fire series of space-based mobile games. Everspace is for PC, but it could reach additional platforms if it passes its Kickstarter goal. It is targeting an October 2016 release and plans to have virtual reality support.

Roguelike means that death in the game will have a more severe penalty than players might be used to; you’ll have to restart from the beginning. However, you can find permanent upgrades for your ship that you can keep throughout the game. So, even though you have to restart, you’ll still have some player progression, similar to others such as Rogue Legacy.

“The mix of persistent progression, blueprints and personal wealth, and temporary progression, crafting and equipping your ship during a run, combined with an ever-changing universe and a rewarding story will make you want to start over again and again to eventually reach your final destination,” the Kickstarter page notes.

Steam users have already voted for Everspace to appear on that digital platform via Steam Greenlight. You can check out some footage of the game below.
