This is a boost from a 14 percent increase between the 2011 and 2012 first quarters. Combined, Gameloft reports its profits rose 24 percent during the first half of the 2012 financial year, and it is now expecting total sales for 2012 to reach €200 million (slightly more than $240 million).
Smartphone and tablet game sales drive much of this business, and were up 119 percent compared to 2011’s second quarter.
“The strong acceleration of growth enjoyed by Gameloft’s smartphone activity is also related to the success of the freemium and paymium models put in place fifteen months ago,” said Gameloft in the earnings report sent to GamesBeat. “Gameloft’s number of monthly active users currently stands at 55 million, and more than 60 percent of Gameloft’s smartphone revenues now derive from in-app purchases and advertising revenues.”
These numbers show hope for the casual gaming market, despite some social gaming companies’ poor performances (notably Zynga, who missed its second quarter estimates) painting a gloomy picture for the future of the mobile business.
