Kabam believes Creature Academy has the recipe for mobile success

Today is the second day of Kabam’s three-day contest leading to the worldwide launch of Creature Academy tomorrow, November 20.

In it, participants utilize video clues to solve the mystery of who kidnapped monster tamer character Pike. The first to correctly guess who, why, and where will claim a $5000 prize.

The contest was devised to introduce Western audiences to the monster-collecting/action-RPG — an adaptation of Netmarble’s Monster Taming, a game app downloaded by over a million players abroad.

Richard Chae, Kabam’s Director of Business Development, contends that Creature Academy’s merging of genres, key features, and accessibility that make it stand out from other games on iOS and Android. “Collection games have always been popular,” Chae says, “but Creature Academy takes this popular type of game play and adds depth by allowing players to utilize them in an RPG game.”

Players can fight, tame and recruit hundreds of creatures, then customize their team’s make-up across multiple game modes, Chae explains. “Creating the best possible team of three monsters to clear stages, fight to stay alive in a survivor battle, PvP against friends, and boss battles; this game elevates the collection element from the traditional collection genre.”

By mixing and matching disparate types of monsters, players can reconfigure their team to make it perfectly suited for each challenge they face. “There are a variety of different creatures that range from fantasy and mythology and each have specialties in offense, defense, or support,” Chae continues. “Depending on the stage, teams need to be assembled to inflict or withstand damage, or rely upon supporting characters to heal or provide boosts to offensive and defensive stats. Each situation varies so creating a team that is best equipped to handle a variety of situations is key to advancing. “

Players can even team up with friends and other players, he adds, either “to use their characters to help you clear a stage or to fight against them in the PvP mode.” But ultimately, it may be the ease by which players can quickly have fun and keep having fun that makes Creature Academy eclipse the rest. “Creature Academy distinguishes itself from games in the Western market because it’s an RPG game that’s accessible to everyone. The gameplay is simple enough to catch on, yet deep enough where core users will stay interested.”

That may, at least in part, explain why the original version of the game has been downloaded on such a massive scale in South Korea.

Whatever the secret ingredients are to the game’s popularity abroad, Kabam believes they’ll form the recipe for success when Creature Academy is released tomorrow for iOS and Android.

What’s more, contest participants will also then be able to view the final video clue, send in their solution to the mystery behind the kidnapping of monster tamer Pike, and find out if they’ve won the $5000 bounty.
