The chaos of last week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles is behind us, but we still have a major duty to fulfill: the non-awards!
You see, while most publications will focus on mentioning the games with the best graphics or interesting gameplay, we like to give shout-outs for the sort of stuff that no one else is really bothering with. Some of our non-awards recognize cool moments, some focus on awkward gaffes, and some even complain about donuts.

(Here’s last year’s choices).
As a big fan of theme parks, I understand that making a line is an art. Sure, you can just have people stand around between some ropes, but the best queues inject theme and personality, setting people up for what they’ll experience once the waiting is over.
E3 has plenty of lines, and most of them are pretty basic. However, some actually do try. This year, Star Wars: Battlefront’s line really stood out (a good thing, since it was one of the longest at the show). The queue was a recreation of the Hoth station from “The Empire Strikes Back,” complete with fake snow and a smokey atmosphere. The line even had life-sized models of R2-DS and C-3PO to pose next to you.
After a bit, you went into a briefing room, where Admiral Ackbar himself sends you a transmission via video monitors that explains the level you’re about to play. This room even had a guy dressed up as a Rebel pilot!
It was all cool stuff, and it reminded me that the spectacle of E3 really can be fun.
