Gaming's most ridiculous button prompts, including Call of Duty's 'Press F to Pay Respects'

Video games can go a bit too far in their quest for interactivity. Sure, pushing a button to punch someone, shoot a gun, or drop a Tetris piece feels great, but sometimes, developers have us press a specific button for a single, odd action.

Nothing shows this better than the new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. As you can see in the screenshot above, one section has the player pushing a button to pay respects to a casket at a funeral. It’s kind of weird, but it’s definitely arbitrary. Why not just have the character automatically do so without the need of a button prompt? It’s not like you really have a choice one way or the other.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen something like this. Below, you’ll find a gallery of other humorous (intentionally or otherwise) button prompts in video games.

To be fair to Call of Duty, Batman: Arkham City did it first.

Pushing a button to remove a friend’s limb is almost as traumatic as having to actually slowly and painfully chop it off.

Press X to Jason. And keep on pressing it. Sadly, you can’t push a button to stop him from getting run over by a car.

Here’s something you’ll immediately do when a video game tells you to, but you’d probably search for better stealth options in real life.

The Deadpool game was a parody of the medium, so it featured tons of hilarious button prompts.

That’s actually kind of a clever way to teach players about stealth. Of course, the next time you use the same buttons, you murder an orc, so the sweetness is a bit gone.
