Watch out for that microtransaction!

George of the Jungle: Owie Owie is new mobile based on the classic cartoon character. It is out now for free on iOS and Android. The $36 billion mobile market is crowded but lucrative. Having a recognizable brand attached to a game could increase its odds of becoming a hit.

The Toronto-based Moonray Studios developed George of the Jungle: Owie Owie. The developer has also made the mobile game Freaktown Defenders. Owie Owie has George jumping his way up trees and avoiding obstacles.

“As George, players have an assortment of powerups to collect, costumes, and friends — including Shep, Ape, and Magnolia — that will propel George to new heights,” Moonray noted in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “Take one wrong step and players will watch George endure every bone-crushing hit in super slow motion.”

The original George of the Jungle cartoon ran in the ’60s. A new version came out in 2007, which is set to have a second run begin later this year. The character designs in the mobile game are based on this version. George of the Jungle was also a 1997 live-action film by Disney starring Brendan Fraser. It also has one of the catchiest theme songs ever.
