Grand Theft Auto V in 4K shows why the PC version’s delay to March is worth the wait

Grand Theft Auto V is coming to PC later than expected, but it will also support a super-high 4K resolution.

Grand Theft Auto V was supposed to hit the PC this month — but not anymore.

Developer Rockstar Games announced today that Grand Theft Auto V won’t debut on PC until March 24. That equates to about a two-month delay for the open-world crime game, which was originally supposed to hit PC on Jan. 27. While that is a bummer for people who prefer to play their games with a keyboard and mouse, the wait is probably worth it. As part of the announcement of the delay, Rockstar released a handful of screenshots of GTA V that show off what it looks like running at 4K resolution. This resolution, sometimes called UltraHD, is four-times higher than that of GTA V on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and screens running 4K had a significant presence at last week’s big tech trade show, the 2015 International CES.

Check it out for yourself (you’ll need to select the 4K option from the video’s settings to get the full effect):

In addition to the new screenshots, Rockstar also released the system requirements to run GTA V. As you might imagine, you’ll need something pretty beefy to get the massive and detailed world of Los Santos running at 4K, but you’ll have an easier time at more reasonable resolutions.

  • Windows 8.1 64-bit, 8 64-bit, or 7 64-bit
  • Intel Core 2 Quad  2.4GHz or AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-core 2.5GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • Nvidia 9800 GT 1GB or AMD HD 4850 1GB
