If you’re going to be in Los Angeles, Calif. this Friday, February 10, you should definitely hop in your car and check out one (or both) of these two video-game events.
First up is the Rhythm Heaven: Fever launch event from 6-10 p.m. The folks at iam8bit are teaming up with Nintendo and Giant Robot Magazine to promote the new Wii installment of this wacky, unforgiving music series. They plan to have a DJ, food and drinks, free swag, and playable copies of the game. Plus the fan group StreetPass Los Angeles is going to be there. If your Nintendo 3DS Mii Plaza is looking a bit like a ghost town, this will be a good place to go…Miingle.
Second is the opening of Gallery 1988’s Multiplayer X2 exhibit, a collection of “posters inspired by classic video games.” I couldn’t find very much information on the evening’s itinerary, but it goes from 7-10 p.m. Judging by some of the preview pieces, I definitely recommend checking this show out. The exhibit runs until March 3.
Since I have work early Saturday morning, I’m less inclined to spend the previous night wading through all the eager club goers in the streets to make it to both of these gatherings. Plus, I can only eat a finite amount of cheese and crackers. So since I have to choose, you’ll find me at the Rhythm Heaven: Fever shindig Friday and the Multiplayer X2 gallery sometime next week. If you, too, plan to come play badminton while hanging out of an airplane on the Wii, make sure you say hi to me. If you’d rather pretend to be art-snob gamer for an evening, definitely take a lot of pictures and post them to Bitmob.
Sometimes I feel like living in San Francisco would be more exciting, game-industry-wise, considering the high concentration of developers and journalists out there. But events like these — and the perpetually warm weather — remind me of why I love being an L.A. gamer.
