The world of Grand Theft Auto V is huge and alive, and now you can explore it through the eyes of its antiheroes.

Developer Rockstar Games revealed today that it’s implementing a new first-person view into its open-world crime game. This perspective is in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, which debut Nov. 18. The PC also has this feature when GTA V hits that platform in January. Rockstar detailed first-person in a trailer it gave to IGN. This addition adds a new way to experience GTA V’s fictitious riff on California, and players can get in closer than ever to see the fine details that the power of the new-gen systems enables. This is also a feature that could convince players who spent the last year playing Grand Theft Auto V to upgrade.

This isn’t the first time that people have played a GTA game in first-person. Community modders built add-ons that enabled this functionality in the previous PC releases of GTA, but this is the first time that Rockstar has enabled the feature itself.

Check out what Grand Theft Auto IV looks like with a first-person mod:

While the PS4, Xbox One, and PC are significantly more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, GTA V already looked beautiful on the older consoles. The upgrade to these new systems enables Rockstar to improve the crispness of every little detail — and first-person should help players get the most out of that.

Publisher Take-Two Interactive reported that it has shipped more than 34 million copies of GTA V to retailers, which represents a saturation of the market. Offering an exciting new way to interact with Los Santos is a smart way to entice fans to double dip on this entry in the series.
