Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is now out on phones, and you can use your pocket-sized devices to take on the latest add-on for the card battler.
Publisher Blizzard has just unlocked Blackrock Spire, which is the third part of the Blackrock Mountain downloadable content. This gives you three new bosses to fight against as part of the continuing solo adventure. This is just one of the ways that Blizzard is keeping fans of its first free-to-play and mobile game coming back for more, and it’s working as Hearthstone is one of the top-grossing apps on iOS and Android. The developer is selling this new episode for $7, but you can buy the entirety of Blackrock Mountain for $25 — that will save you a few bucks over purchasing each wing separately.
As with the previous wings, Blackrock Spire enables you to unlock a handful of powerful and interesting new cards that join your collection permanently. Blizzard is also introducing a new class challenge.
This is the third of five wings for the Blackrock Mountain add-on. In total, players who purchase and complete all of the content will get 31 new cards. That includes 5 legendary cards that will almost make the adventure worth the $25 on their own as you could spend that much on booster packs without the guarantee you’ll get even one legendary.
Hearthstone is once again on the rise thanks to its debut on phones and the weekly launch of the Blackrock Mountain episodes. It is among the top 10 most downloaded games on iOS in South Korea (where it’s No. 1), Hong Kong (No. 9), and the United States (No. 9) — those are some massive markets that spend a lot of money on mobile gaming. On iPhone alone — not including Android, iPad, or PC/Mac — the card game is already the 16th highest-grossing app in South Korea and the 26th highest in the United States. That’s going to translate into hundreds of thousands of dollars a day, according to ThinkGaming.
Not bad for Blizzard’s first time releasing a game for phones.
