I’ve worked for months to recruit, and sometimes re-recruit, 93 speakers for GamesBeat 2016, our game conference that runs August 1-3 at the beautiful Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes in Los Angeles.

Our emcee for AR/VR day is Mike Capps, the former president of Epic Games. Capps dreams about the metaverse, the collective virtual space enabled by virtual reality and the internet. He spends his time envisioning, architecting, and advocating a metaverse that’s open, accessible to everyone, and a safe place for his kids to someday work and play. Mike leans on his experience as a game designer, executive producer, lead writer, lead programmer, research professor, industry advocate, and technology executive.

At Epic, Capps helped guide the company through a huge period of growth from 2004 to 2013. He oversaw the launch of games such as Gears of War and Infinity Blade and multiple versions of the Unreal Engine. He serves on multiple boards, including Sphero, Autarch, the Immersive Technology Alliance, and Remedy Entertainment.

In May 2015, Capps became an advisor to Unity Technologies. Now he’s a strategic adviser for a variety of companies.

Virtual reality is impossible to ignore and on the mind of every decision-maker in the gaming industry.
