Nintendo is giving away one of its most popular games next month — Pokémon X and Y.

The publisher revealed this morning that it will give Pokémon X or Y away for free in March. To get it, players simply need to register their 3DS system as well as one of six specific games on the company’s Club Nintendo customer loyalty website during March. The participating titles are Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, and Yoshi’s New Island. All those are available now except for Yoshi, which is due out March 14.

This means that anyone with an unregistered 3DS, 3DS XL, or 2DS as well as one of the aforementioned games can log those items on Nintendo’s website and receive a code for Pokémon X or Y. You simply have to register those products starting on March 1 through March 31. You must also use the Pokémon X or Y code by May 31.

Of course, this deal is also an incentive for someone who was planning to purchase a 3DS soon. They can now get the system, Mario Kart or another major release, and then get a free Pokémon by registering those new purchases. As for those who own and have already registered their 3DS and games, they are out of luck unless they plan on upgrading.

Club Nintendo is the company’s customer-reward program. Gamers can get special points called coins for filling out surveys and registering purchases, and then they can use those coins to buy exclusive items and software from the Club Nintendo store. These include digital downloads like Punch-Out!! for the Wii U Virtual Console as well as character-branded tote bags.
