If imitation is flattery and great artists steal, then I think we found the most celebratory work of genius currently available on the App Store.

Ace Block Jump is a 2D base-jumping game with more than a passing resemblance to some popular indie titles. In fact, it looks like the mobile game, available now for iPhone and iPad for 99 cents, directly lifts assets from PC and Xbox Live Arcade puzzle-platformer Fez.

For its background, Ace Block Jump uses art that is identical to Fez.

For its characters, however, it uses the distinct Minecraft style that is popular in knockoff mobile titles.

The App Store lists the game’s developer as Infocom Games. This does not appear to be the same Infocom that made classic PC game Zork I, but we’ve reached out to the studio to ask if it got permission to use Fez’s art

Developer Polytron posted to Twitter about Ace Block Jump with the following message:

“The first action game in which we mixed pixel and Minecraft-style — called [Pixelcraft],” reads the game’s description on the App Store. “[Ace Block Jump] is the most exciting and amusing game ever — especially in this new style.”

The title also has a list of mind-blowing features that include “explosive gameplay,” “various characters,” and “widescreen support.” You’re definitely getting your money’s worth here.
