This is not an April Fool’s Day joke.

Atlus announced today that it will publish Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, the very first game from the popular Japanese animation and comic franchise to reach North America and Europe. The Spike Chunsoft-developed title comes exclusively to the Nintendo eShop for 3DS this May. Attack on Titan is hugely popular in its home country, with an anime adaptation and a series books already out and two live-action movies slated for later this year. This release gives Sega-owned publisher Atlus the first crack at the Western fans that have been demanding more.

Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, an update of an earlier Japanese release, has players using weapons and skills to defend city walls from invading Titans, giants that seek to eat humanity to extinction. Aside from its single-player story mode, it supports four-player cooperative play, online and off, with support for the New 3DS XL’s C-stick (it’s also compatible with the optional Circle Pad Pro accessory) thanks to the update.

For 3DS owners that aren’t up on the Attack on Titan craze, the first two episodes of the anime are available on Nintendo’s eShop for free as of now.

Release timing and pricing will be made at a later date, Atlus says.
