Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix trailer reveals high-def boss battles and more

Disney and Square Enix fans finally got the announcement they wanted when the two companies revealed that Kingdom Hearts 3 is in development during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. That game is in the works for PlayStation 4 and is still a ways off.

In the meantime, fans can get a chance to experience some of the earlier Kingdom Hearts titles with remastered high-definition visuals thanks to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix. Square is giving players a taste of the updated games with a new trailer that shows off Kingdom Hearts’ action-based combat and memorable boss fights with famous Disney villains. That includes The Little Mermaid’s evil octopus-like Ursula, Hercules’ three-headed dog Cerberus, and others.

The Kingdom Hearts collection bundles together the original Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, and a cutscene-only version of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. The publisher reworked the visuals of the Disney and Square mashup stories and plans to release the title for PlayStation 3 on Sept. 10.

Square originally released the first Kingdom Hearts for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. The version bundled in this HD update is the Final Mix, which the publisher only released in Japan and includes gameplay tweaks and events not in the original release.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was originally a Game Boy Advance game that debuted in 2004. Square eventually rereleased it as Kingdom Hearts: Re: Chain of Memories for PlayStation 2 in 2008.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days is a Nintendo DS title that continues the series’ story. It originally hit the portable in 2009. This game is not playable in the HD 1.5 Remix, but its cutscenes will appear with the same HD-upgrades as the other games.
