It’s been seven years since the last numbered entry in Square-Enix’s popular Disney/Final Fantasy crossover series, Kingdom Hearts. In that time, Square has subjected fans to a parade of spinoff titles for portable systems. But no more! Series director Tetsuya Nomura has finally unveiled Kingdom Hearts 3 at Sony’s pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo today in Los Angeles.

The short trailer showed series hero Sora picking up a strange-looking keyblade (the series’ signature weapon) on Destiny Islands, the small, tropical beach where the original Kingdom Hearts started. Later footage showed Sora chased by (and later surfing) a wave of the franchise’s main enemies, the Heartless.

Square-Enix would not reveal a release date, instead saying simply that the action role-playing game was in development for the upcoming PlayStation 4.
