Both Microsoft and Sony are restricting online multiplayer behind a paywall on their next-generation consoles. But only the Xbox One will limit its game-recording features to premium subscribers.

After finding out that only Gold subscribers will get to use the game DVR functionality on Xbox One, players took to Twitter to ask Sony worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida if the same was true for PlayStation 4. Yoshida’s answer is definitive and succinct:

Xbox One’s game DVR and the PlayStation 4’s game-sharing features both enable you to go back and watch recent onscreen action at any time. Gamers can then share clips of their play to friends through social media.

Players can also broadcast their gaming to livestreaming services like Twitch or Ustream.

An Xbox 360 Gold subscription costs $10 a month or $60 a year.
