The Year of Luigi is long gone, but Mario’s brother is still getting plenty of love from Nintendo.
Luigi’s Mansion, the series that focuses on the green plumber’s exploits in haunted houses, is getting an arcade version in Japan. According to GoNintendo, the machine is currently testing at limited locations. Interestingly, Capcom is behind this arcade version. That developer has not worked on the series before, although it does have a history of collaborating with Nintendo on The Legend of Zelda franchise.
It’s not very clear exactly how the game (titled Luigi Mansion Arcade) works from the couple of pictures of the machine posted at Japanese site GamesTalk. However, it looks like you have to enter an enclosed space to play.
While Nintendo used to make a lot of arcade games (Mario debuted in one, 1981’s Donkey Kong), the company is mostly known for its home consoles and portable systems these days. Another popular Nintendo franchise, Mario Kart, has also gotten the arcade treatment in recent years, which Namco developed.
