The next entry in the charming Mario & Luigi role-playing game series is going to kickoff Nintendo’s 2016.

The publisher revealed today during its Livestream event that Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is due out January 22 for the 3DS. This is the first time that Nintendo is combining the characters of Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario into one adventure, and it means that the team of alternate universe plumbers will have to work together to take on the biggest bad guys from each of their respective games.

This is likely the start of the last year or two for the 3DS as Nintendo’s primary console, and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam will help it go out in style. This series is already responsible for one of the 3DS’s best games in Bowser’s Inside Story, and if Paper Jam hits that level of quality, we’ll have something excellent to play in the heart of winter.
