Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut downloadable content releases June 26

Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut downloadable content releases June 26

All the questions left by Mass Effect 3's obtuse endings find the closure they need in developer BioWare's latest (and free) Extended Cut downloadable content releasing June 26.

Mass Effect 3 Extended CutDeveloper BioWare announced this morning that the latest downloadable content for its science-fiction role-playing game Mass Effect 3 releases on June 26 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Entitled Extended Cut, the free DLC targets gamers who automatically consider the words “Commander Shepard” a nauseating taboo due to the game’s infamously unsatisfying and jarringly abrupt endings.

BioWare says the Extended Cut “expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences” with the goal of “providing more of the answers and closure players asked for.”

A companion FAQ and in-house audio interview discussing the DLC with BioWare community manager Jessica Merizan, executive producer Casey Hudson, and lead writer Mac Walters accompanies the announcement.

Mass Effect 3 released on March 6 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 to widespread critical acclaim. As the last leg of the Mass Effect franchise’s trilogy, it charts the final struggles of hero Commander Shepard against a galactic threat known as the Reapers. BioWare’s calling card of immersive storylines driven by impactful player choices sparked millions of copies sold, but the controversial nature of ME3’s endings soured its reputation within a community feeling cheated out of closure.
