Metal Gear Solid V stealths its way on to Steam

For the first time ever, the main Metal Gear Solid franchise is heading to Steam.

Publisher Konami and Metal Gear mastermind Hideo Kojima confirmed that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will both come to the PC digital-distribution service Steam. The game was previously only set for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Ground Zeroes is already out for all of those systems.

We’ve reached out to Konami for more details. We asked the publisher if MGS V will have mod support on Steam, and we’ll update this post with any new information.

Prior to this, no games in the main Metal Gear Solid series have ever appeared on Steam. Konami did release Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, a character-action game focused on combat, on Steam earlier this year. Before that, the company released Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for PC on disc.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain once again has players taking the role of supersoldier Snake. Players will have to use their tools to stay hidden and to infiltrate an open world. Ground Zeroes debuted in March. It gives players an early taste of what The Phantom Pain will feel like.

The Phantom Pain likely debuts sometime in 2015 for all platforms.
