The evidence suggests that humans really, really like snapping blocks together. Mojang’s bank account certainly supports that theory.

The developer of the block-building phenomenon Minecraft and Microsoft revealed today that fans have purchased over 12 million copies of the Xbox 360 version. In addition to thanking the fans, Mojang also thanked developer 4J Studios, which is the company responsible for the console ports. 4J got the game working on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it is also responsible for updating and patching the Lego-like virtual world.

In a post on Microsoft’s website, Mojang also confirmed that 4J Studios has more content packs in development similar to the Marvel character skins it released late last year. Mojang developer Daniel Kaplan told Microsoft that fans can expect more mashups with other games in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.

Kaplan also noted that Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is still in the works.

“It is coming, eventually,” he said.

Finally, Kaplan said this Beetle Juice roller coaster is the best thing he’s seen anyone create in the Xbox 360 version:
