You can build the blocky castle of your dreams on Xbox One later this week.
Microsoft confirmed that Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will debut on Friday for $20. Of course, many of you might already own the blockbuster game on Xbox 360; in that case, you can upgrade to the Xbox One version for $5. If you purchased any downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version, that will transfer over to Xbox One as well.

Minecraft is the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title on Xbox 360, and it will likely continue performing well on new-gen systems. This version will bring all of the Lego-like, create-anything/exploration/survival action of the original onto Microsoft’s latest home console. It will also feature some improvements, which includes worlds that are 36 times larger than the ones in the 360 version.
In addition to the single-player gameplay, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will have four-player splitscreen and eight-player online play.
Microsoft confirmed that Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sold 13 million copies, which makes up a significant portion of the 55 million total sold. The game is a phenomenon and is one of the best-selling PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and smartphone titles in the world.
In addition to the Xbox One Edition, Minecraft developer Mojang is working with Sony on a version for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. We’ve reached out to Sony for an update on when Minecraft will debut on those platforms, and we’ll update this post with any new information.
