LOS ANGELES — One of Xbox Live Arcade’s most popular games is heading to the Xbox One.
Microsoft plans to release Minecraft Xbox One Edition on its next-gen console, announcing the news this morning at its pre-E3 briefing. This is an updated version of the Minecraft currently available on Xbox 360. Microsoft’s Phil Harrison promised that it would expand available maps and multiplayer options.
It’s no surprise that Microsoft would want to get Minecraft up and running on Xbox One. In addition to its massive sales numbers, Minecraft is among the most-played titles on Xbox Live. Those players might’ve hesitated to move on to Xbox One if Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition didn’t work.
The Xbox 360’s Live Arcade titles are not compatible with the company’s Xbox One console. Players will have to keep their Xbox 360s around to continue playing those games (unless they’re later ported to the Xbox 360 in some manner).
