Call of Duty publisher Activision today revealed that the new maps, Liberation and Piazza, along with five other content updates during January, February and March, will be made available first to members of its premium subscription service Elite on Xbox Live as part of the exclusivity deal the publisher has with Microsoft. Other platforms will get access to the content at a later time.

“Call of Duty Elite provides an ‛always-on’ connection to our fanbase, and the MW3 Content Season is the ultimate way to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the Call of Duty community and provide tremendous value to Call of Duty Elite premium members,” said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. “With the Call of Duty: MW3 Content Season for Call of Duty Elite we are delivering on our promise of more new content, more often, and with more variety than ever.”

The two new multiplayer maps — also playable in Modern Warfare 3’s Survival Mode — take place in a war-torn Central Park and an Italian seaside village. Activision says the Liberation map is a vast, militarized landscape ripe for long-range snipers and LMG fire, while the Piazza map features tight corners and branching pathways suitable for close-range combat.

To celebrate the launch of each new content drop, the company says Call of Duty Elite will run specialized events for real-world prizes throughout the nine-month season.

While Elite subscribers get the new content first, Activision’s Dan Amrich says on his blog non-Elite members will be able to buy the maps later in bundles via the traditional DLC method.
