Films based on video games (and vice versa) usually suck, but using game characters to recreate posters of popular movies works surprisingly well.
Take the image above, for example. I swapped the T. rex from Jurassic Park’s poster with Bowser, and the palm trees at the bottom with Super Mario World’s Valley of Bowser overhead map. Yoshi was my original choice since he’s a dinosaur, but King Koopa looks far more menacing.
Below I added 10 more reimagined movie posters that should please cinephiles and gamers alike. Hover the cursor over the picture to launch the gallery.
For Henry, James, and Tommy, shooting people in Goodfellas was “no big deal.” Trevor, Franklin, and Michael (Grand Theft Auto V) aim to take over Los Santos in a similar fashion, but I doubt they’ll be as terrifying as Joe Pesci. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’s Skyloft has floating pieces of rock and giant flying animals that you can ride on — just like Avatar’s Pandora. McMurphy (Nicholson) was only pretending to be crazy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest while Team Fortress’ Demoman is clearly clinically demented. Recreating The Dark Knight’s iconic poster in Batman: Arkham City was fairly easy, but getting Bats to pose for a picture wasn’t. Which of these rugged cowboys would win in a Mexican standoff, Blondie or Marston (Red Dead Redemption)? My money is on the guy with the hat. The dubious characters from Bryan Singer’s The Usual Suspects fear getting caught by the police, but I don’t think video game assassins like Agent 47, Thane Krios, Ezio Auditore, HK-47, and Ryu Hayabusa give a crap about the authorities. Prometheus’ crew traveled to a planetoid 40 light years away in search of humanity’s origin only to find out that we all came from Wario. Geralt (The Witcher 2) suffers from memory loss instead of anterograde amnesia like Memento’s Leonard Shelby, but I couldn’t resist combining these two universes. Triss tries to help Geralt while Natalie takes advantage of Leornard. It’s obvious that Konami modeled Bill “Mad Dog” Rizer after Arnold Schwarzenegger, specifically Arnie’s look in Predator. Curiously, Contra’s monsters look like xenomorphs from the movie Aliens. I hate doing this to Castlevania’s Alucard (Symphony of the Night) and Shanoa (Order of Ecclesia), but I couldn’t find a prettier vampire/human couple in video game land to replace Twilight’s Edward and Bella.
