It’s pointless to have a brain brimming with pop-culture factoids if you can’t show off to your friends. Trailerpop knows this, which is why the company is adding multiplayer to its movie-trailer quiz app of the same name.

Trailerpop is getting a multiplayer mode on Android that will enable players to compete with their Facebook, Google+, and Trailerpop friends. The competitive mode will also make its way to the iOS version soon.

Players can use the new multiplayer to challenge others in movie categories like Animation, Zombies, and more. Trailerpop has hundreds of thousands of trivia questions that pop up over 20,000 different high-definition movie previews.

“Our audience is super engaged and watches up to 2 hours of trailers each month so discovery is actually turning into entertainment,” Trailerpop chief executive Jon Vlassopulos said in a statement. “Adding the multiplayer mode was a natural evolution to bring more fun to the table and drive more frequent activity.

Trailerpop is a free download for users. It is a another example of how corporations (in this case, movie studios) can use gamification to get products in front of an enthusiastic and engaged audience.

“Each game acts as a movie reminder and presents a purchase opportunity,” said Vlassopulos. “We think this will be a fantastic way to drive increased awareness and purchase of catalog titles.”
