Every new platform needs shooting games. So Ndreams has launched a demo of its virtual reality arcade shoot-’em-up Gunner for the Samsung Gear VR.
Virtual reality is a hot new platform that showed more momentum at the recent 2015 International CES, the big tech trade show in Las Vegas. Samsung showed off its Gear VR device, which combines a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone with an Oculus VR-based headset.
Ndreams is making games for multiple VR platforms, including Oculus Rift, Gear VR Innovator Edition, and Sony’s Project Morpheus. It’s based in the United Kingdom. The demo as a free download for now. But once the Oculus storefront goes live, Ndreams and Oculus will publish the full game. In this case, Oculus VR is acting as the copublisher of the title.
The game is set in 2167, where your job is to stop a galaxy-wide rebellion by shooting down a bunch of enemy spaceships that come into the sights of your artillery. You can look around 360 degrees in the game, as if you were inside a virtual world. The game is like a combination of The Last Starfighter fillm and an old-school arcade game.
