Netmarble Games is determined to make a big splash in the West. The South Korean mobile game company’s latest attempt is Soul King, a strategic role-playing game that launches globally today on iOS and Android.

Seoul-based Netmarble bills itself as a the fastest-growing mobile game company in Asia, and, like many other Asian companies, it has global ambitions in the $36 billion mobile game market. Netmarble has grown in Asia and globally with hits like Marvel Future Fight, and the company now has 3,000 employees. It was founded in 2000.

In the free-to-play Soul King, players have to defend the mythical land of Moriatia with spirited heroes. The game has more than 300 stages and characters with plenty of personality. It is targeted, Netmarble says, at players who “are fed up with monotonous gameplay.”

Soul King is a skill-based game that invites players to embark on missions to defeat evil and protect Moriatia. In combat, players have to use a variety of skills to win. Each hero has two specific skills, and players can further develop them.

Players choose Adventure Mode or the Story Mode. The Adventure Mode consists of 10 chapters that challenge players to defeat their enemies in unique combat situations. Upon completion of a chapter, players receive rewards and the opportunity to battle a boss for even greater benefits.

“We are excited to announce the global release of Soul King,” said Seungwon Lee, chief marketing officer at Netmarble Games, in a statement. “We hope our players will enjoy this unique opportunity to raise and fight with their very own heroes as they battle to save the wonderfully mythic world of Moriatia.”

Soul King was developed in-house by Netmarble’s FunnyPaw.
