The Battlefield 3 open beta begins September 29. Participants will hit pavement on the Operation Metro map, vying for control of strategic points in the first-person shooter's Rush mode. Those who plunked down the cash ahead of time for the PC version on EA's Origin service get a slight September 27 head start on the fragging festivities. Battlefield 3 releases on October 25 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical Design, creator of Haze and TimeSplitters) plans a Homefront sequel. The future of the Red Dawn-inspired franchise teetered precariously after original developer Kaos Studios closed its doors in June. Publisher THQ penned in a potential (as of yet untitled) sequel release between April 2013 and March 2014. Of course, none of this matters because the Mayans will kill us all next year.

The PC version of Batman: Arkham Asylum heads back to its isolated mansion for further polish. Publisher Warner Bros. announced today that the PC version of the action-adventure game won't release until November. Both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions keep their October 18 launch date.
