Most of my friends in the San Francisco Bay Area consider Los Angeles with a significant measure of scorn. I'm sure they're now rejoicing at the prospect of destroying the property values of LA's effigy in Grand Theft Auto 5.

News Blips:

GTA5 returns to the sun-drenched, palm-lined streets of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' Los Santos. Rockstar confirmed today that the upcoming open-world action title seeks a tan in the Los Angeles-esque city and its "surrounding hills, countryside, and beaches" while pursuing "the almighty dollar in a re-imagined present day Southern California." Now I can find out if my blimp-sized CJ character — the protagonist from SA — still gorges on hamburgers daily since I left him.

Just after a week since release, Battlefield 3 hasn't yet domed the Call of Duty games' reign as the kings of Xbox Live. XBL Director of Programming Larry Hryb's unique-user list for the week-long span of October 24-30 revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 kept ahead of EA's mega-budget shooter. BF3 fans adopt wounded optimism. COD fans gloat using phallic-shaped symbolism. Our esteemed panel of experts say, "Who cares?"

Three Silent Hill games materializes from the fog in early 2012. Silent Hill HD Collection kicks off the fun on January 24 with enhanced versions of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. February 22 plays host to Silent Hill: Book of Memories on the PlayStation Vita. Lastly, Silent Hill: Downpour comes out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March. I'm now awaiting the imminent crossover Dos Equis commercial in the Most Interesting Town in the World.

Oh look, more balaclavas: Ubisoft announces Rainbow Six: Patriots. Creative Director David Sears said the game features "all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love, coupled with an exciting new narrative direction." Set for release in 2013, Patriots pits counterterrorism unit Team Rainbow against an organized criminal group called the True Patriots, a name that both evokes imagery of an AK-wielding George Washington and causes Solid Snake to snort derisively into his cigarette butt.
