The Wii U might have its struggles, but Nintendo’s current portable is doing just fine.
The 3DS has passed 15 million systems sold in the U.S., according to a press release sent by Nintendo to GamesBeat. This makes it the 8th Nintendo system to reach that milestone.

However, a quick price drop from $250 to $170 and a slew of successful games jump-started the portable. Popular titles include Mario Kart 7, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Pokemon X and Y, and Super Mario 3D Land. Each of those games have sold at least 2 million U.S. copies.
The system isn’t slowing down, either. Sales of the 3DS are up 50 percent in the first six months of 2015 when compared to the same period last year. This is thanks to the New 3DS model, an updated version of the console that adds face-tracking 3D, an analog nub, extra shoulder buttons, and a little more processing power. The New 3DS came out in the U.S. this February.
