If you’ve been looking for something to do with your 3DS other than play old Game Boy ports, Nintendo has just revealed a partial list of the year’s upcoming handheld games, and things are looking good for the portable market.
The notable games start coming next week, with New Super Mario Bros. 2 on August 19, but most of the list won’t be available until October. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, which will feature free downloadable puzzles every day for a year, will be in stores on October 28, and Ubisoft’s “much beloved” Imagine Babyz series will come to the 3DS a few days earlier on October 23.

If slightly more-nebulous release dates are more your speed, Angry Birds Trilogy will be in stores at some point in October, while Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?! (based on the hit cartoon) and Lego The Lord of the Rings (based on the hit toys based on the hit movies) are scheduled simply for “Fall.”
Of course, if you have yet to upgrade to the 3DS (or you’re a big fan of backward compatibility), Pokémon Black and White Version 2 will be available on October 7. There will also be plain DS version of Adventure Time and Lego The Lord of the Rings.
Notably absent is Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, the sequel to one of the GameCube’s best games, which has been pushed back to early 2013.
