Nintendo is delaying the releases of Wii Party U and Wii Fit U, as announced in the Nintendo Direct webcast today during the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The publisher wants Wii Party U to be the definitive party game on Wii U. It will include both standard board games and party games that use both GamePad and Wiimote control schemes. Nintendo also confirmed 80 new minigames for the title, including “tabletop” games that play directly on the GamePad. These different forms of gameplay will ensure that everyone can join in regardless of skill.

Instead of launching this summer, Wii Party U is coming in October. Nintendo requires more time to focus on development.

Nintendo also wants to take more time to add new features to Wii Fit U, which is coming this December as opposed to this spring/summer.

“After the Wii U launched, [we] couldn’t release games as smoothly as we have planned,” said Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata. “To those of you that have been eagerly awaiting these titles, I appreciate your patience.”
