One of the most anticipated games of the year has a release date.
Developer Hello Games revealed on the PlayStation Blog today that No Man’s Sky will release on June 21. The PlayStation 4 and PC space-exploration game has become one of the most interesting titles of the generation. While made by a small team, No Man’s Sky allows players to fly across an entire galaxy and discover new planets. It might be the largest game ever made. Its virtual galaxy has more than 18 billion, billion planets. This is thanks to procedural generation, which can create all of these worlds and make them all unique using a large library of assets and randomly changing certain qualities (like size and color). This technology will benefit the industry, making it easier for future games to create large, unique worlds.

Sony has made a point of showing off the game at press events at shows like E3, where it has captured hearts and attention for its sheer size and the amazing way players can fly from space straight down to a planet without having to wait for any loading times. The game was even featured on mainstream TV like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Hello Games also revealed that No Man’s Sky will have a physical release, which is a rarer thing for indie games.
