One company is gunning for Gunnar with its low-cost gaming glasses.

NoScope launches two new models of gaming glasses today. The Cary, North Carolina-based company creates prescription-compatible eyewear that uses resin-coated lenses to reduce eye strain from computer, television, and mobile screens. Its new glasses-friendly offering starts at only $25, directly challenging Carlsbad, Calif-based competitor Gunnar — its glasses start at $70.

NoScope’s professional $30 Gemini line of glasses feature a lightweight frame and coated lenses, and its thin frame arms are compatible with headphones, an important feature for professional gamers. The launch of this product kicks off an expansion effort for the company into the growing professional gaming market, which has more than 70 million viewers worldwide, according to research firm SuperData.

The Golem line works with prescription glasses — its oversized frame fits directly on top of another pair of specs. The tinted lenses of the Golem work just like NoScope’s other offerings, filtering out light that could cause eye strain and fatigue.

NoScope marketing manager Brandon Anderson says that the company wanted to fill a hole, serving a “neglected market.”

“NoScope was formed as a direct response to a visible gap in the current market for gaming glasses,” Anderson told GamesBeat. “We noticed that while there is a high demand for gaming glasses, it seemed that very few people actually owned them due to their high cost and low number of available options. We decided to establish ourselves as a company committed to offering functional, affordable and quality items where our competitors are focused on selling a product with an artificially inflated price. We then decided to take this philosophy and apply it to all aspects of our brand.”

Both the Golem and Gemini lines are available for purchase beginning today at NoScope’s web store.
