The birds are almost back with some more Star Wars-themed fowl flinging.

Mobile developer Rovio plans to unleash Angry Birds Star Wars 2 for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone on Sept. 19. The game, like its predecessor, combines the bird-tossing action of the Angry Birds franchise with the powers, characters, and settings of Star Wars universe. For this game, Rovio is using the prequel trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) as a basis, and the studio just released a new trailer that demonstrates the game in action:

The video shows a young Anakin Skywalker bird that can use a podracer vehicle to help it gain more distance on its throws and a Mace Windu bird that can chuck a purple lightsaber. The game also invites players to “join the pork side” and use the evil pig characters to cause damage. That includes a hogs based on the Emperor, General Grievous, and Darth Maul.

Rovio is also teaming offering toy versions of the Angry Birds Star Wars characters that can interact with the game using Hasbro’s new Telepods device, which enables fans to bring the physical figures into the game instantly. This means players can use whatever birds they want on any level as long as they have the physical item.
