Nvidia director mentions PC version of Grand Theft Auto V is coming ‘this fall’

Grand Theft Auto V is due out Sept. 17 only for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. That’s it. No Wii U version, no next-gen port, and no PC release … or maybe a PC release?

PC graphics-card manufacturer Nvidia explicitly stated that Grand Theft Auto V is among the titles that PC gamers are preparing to dive into later this year, as first spotted by Crave Online.

“Many consumers look to PC as a general purpose device they can use for browsing, e-mail, social media video,” Nvidia senior investor relations director Chris Evenden said on the company’s recent earnings conference call. “But much of this can be better served by a tablet. In contrast, gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V [emphasis ours], and Assassin’s Creed IV.”

Evenden seems to think that Grand Theft Auto V is not only coming to PC — something Rockstar won’t confirm — but he thinks it is coming this fall.

As the company responsible for the GPUs in many consumer PC systems, it’s likely that Nvidia would know if a GTA V PC port is in the works. Nvidia would want time to prepare a firmware update for its graphics cards to ensure the title performs well.

We’ve reached out to Nvidia and Rockstar for comment, and we’ll update this post with any new comments or information.

It’s also possible — even likely — that Evenden made a mistake. The director might just assume that the game is coming for PC without knowing for sure. So far, this is just another rumor.

Rockstar previously released all of its Grand Theft Auto titles on PC, although it didn’t port many until many months after their initial console debuts.
