It’s understandable. For the most part, you're used to receiving critical acclaim for all you do. It just so happens you have a large part of the gaming community upset with you. Now it seems like you might be making the decision to go back and change the ending to your epic trilogy.
I’m not writing this letter to comment about the ending of Mass Effect 3, I'm just asking you to take a look at the backlash that George Lucas received for changing the ending of Return of the Jedi to show Hayden Christensen.
The reason I’m writing this is to say thank you. I've been an avid gamer my whole life. I started on the Atari 2600, played everything in the middle, and rock the current generation of consoles as well. I want to thank you because for the last two years or so my love for gaming waned and you brought it back.
I know some fan boys won’t like this comment very much, but the truth is, companies have been giving us the same whitewashed products for a while now. We do our best to persuade ourselves every year that these releases are really good and innovative. Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, Halo 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops (don’t get me started), The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. They are all good in their own right, but really, aren’t they the same games we've seen before?
The fact of the matter is that recent titles have not been much different, in any relevant way, from their predecessors. For the most part, they just added more stuff for us to do — not that doing that stuff made any real difference in our overall experiences.
Mass Effect 3 made me truly excited. I would spend my workdays thinking about playing, and when I got got home and booted it up, I enjoyed every minute. I could tell that your whole team generally put their love and soul into the game. So thank you. Mass Effect 3 truly brought back my love for gaming.
I understand that things are tough right now, but keep your head up.
