Ouya console will launch with OnLive cloud-gaming service

Cloud gaming comes to the open-source Ouya console.

Ouya OnLive

Cloud gaming platform OnLive announced today that its service will be available pre-installed on the open-source Ouya console when it launches next year.

OnLive streams games to users from its own servers and allows low-end PCs, tablets, and smartphones to run high-definition content (but then again, maybe it doesn’t). Here are some bullet points about how Ouya will use OnLive, according to the cloud service’s blog:

  • OnLive will bring hundreds of top-tier games from more than 80 publishers to the Ouya console for play on demand.
  • Ouya owners will be able to jump in and play any of these games both at home on their Ouya console and on the go on PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones.
  • Instant demos will be available for nearly every game in OnLive’s ever-growing library. Players can experience up to 30 minutes of each game for free before deciding what to buy. If they like a game, they can continue playing where the demo left off.

The Ouya will launch sometime next year at a price point of $99. It’s raised more than $5.5 million on crowdfunding site Kickstarter.
