Playdots Inc. secures $10 million in funding round

Two Dots changes up the formula for the popular mobile puzzler.

Playdots Inc. is connecting more money than dots these days.

The New York City-based developer of mobile games Dots: A Game About Connecting and TwoDots announced today that it has finished a $10 million Series A funding round that Tencent and Greycroft Partners co-led. Venture capitalists from around the world including Northzone and CrunchFund contributed. The money will go toward advancing the Dots franchise.

Dots and TwoDots have a combined 45 million players around the world, according to PlayDots. They are just a couple out of thousands of mobile games trying to get a piece of the lucrative mobile gaming market, which could be worth $25 billion in worldwide revenues by the end 2014, according to market researcher Newzoo.

“It’s been immensely gratifying to watch millions of people across the globe engage with our games,” said Dots cofounder and chief executive officer Paul Murphy is a statement sent to GamesBeat. “This investment from an incredible set of partners will help Dots become one of the leading mobile-first games studios.”
