Sony looks like it’s already won the console war, at least in Germany.
Sales figures revealed by German trading group Börse show that the PlayStation 4 outsold its main home console rival, the Xbox One, by a ratio of more than 4-to-1 during its first year. While Microsoft’s Xbox brand is generally stronger in the U.S. than Europe, Germany — with the world’s fourth largest economy and a population of 82 million — is a key European market.

The Xbox One sold 270,000 units in Germany up to November 2014, according to Börse, while the PlayStation 4 sold 1.2 million during the same period. Börse puts total worldwide sales of the PS4 at 16.1 million units, compared to Xbox One sales of 9.1 million.
It’s a significant gap, and one that seems to be growing, at least in Germany. Back in June, the PlayStation 4 was only outselling the Xbox One by a ratio of 3-to-1. It’s certainly a worrying trend for Microsoft.
