The PlayStation 4 is still going strong.
Sony revealed that it sold four million PlayStation 4s in its second financial quarter, a three-month period that ended on September 30. That brings lifetime sales up to 29.3 million, which actually tracks ahead of the PlayStation 2 during the same point in its life. That’s impressive when you consider that the PS2 is the best-selling console of all time, moving over 155 million systems worldwide.

The Games and Network Services Division of Sony saw a 16.5 percent increase in revenue over the same period the previous year, making $3 billion. Sony attributes the success to an increase in PlayStation 4 software sales.
Sony now enters an important financial quarter that takes place over the holiday season, the most lucrative time of the year for game and console sales. While Microsoft is attacking the holiday with first-party exclusives like Halo 5: Guardians, Sony is instead promoting third-party games like Star Wars: Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
