You may have to wait to get that Destiny update that just launched today if you’re on a PlayStation console.
Sony is taking its PlayStation Network offline today to give the servers some love and care. Starting at 9 a.m. Pacific (12 p.m. Eastern), many parts of PSN will cease functioning for at least six hours. Sony expects everything to come back online around 3 p.m. Pacific.

As part of this maintenance, you will not have access to the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, or Account Management. You’ll get an error message if you try to get into any of those online systems.
Online multiplayer is also offline unless you have signed into the network any time since Nov. 13. Apps like Netflix will also work as long as you’ve signed in recently.
The timing of this maintenance coincides with developer Bungie releasing the first of several updates for Destiny this month. The shooter’s 1.0.3 patch just went live, but with the PlayStation Store going offline, you’ll likely have issues downloading it.
PlayStation Network going down is not a cause for concern. Sony regularly brings its online infrastructure offline to perform service on it, and the company has done so since the PS3 days.
Sony has dealt with a number of issues on the PS4 recently due to its faulty 2.0 system update. While today’s maintenance will improve PSN — it is all on the server side, so it won’t address any lingering issues with the new-gen console’s latest patch.
