At this point, it’s hard to believe a Pokémon game could ever be anything but a giant hit.
The newest entries in Nintendo’s monster-collecting and battling role-playing series for the 3DS have shipped 7.7 million copies worldwide, via Siliconera. The games came out in the U.S., Japan, and Australia on Nov. 21, with a European launch following on Nov. 28.

By comparison, the originals sold 16.22 million copies worldwide. The previous installments in the series, the X and Y versions for the 3DS, have sold 13.29 million as of November. Those numbers also come from Siliconera.
Note, however, that copies shipped does not equal copies sold. On Nov. 26, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire had sold 3 million.
