The PlayStation 4 has its first blockbuster of 2014.

Publisher Sony Computer Entertainment and developer Sucker Punch revealed today that their open-world action game Infamous: Second Son has already sold more than 1 million copies. It glided pass that milestone in just nine days following its March 21 debut. Its success was likely due in large part to its positive critical reception (our review heaped praise on it) as well as a dearth of high-quality triple-A games on Sony’s latest console.

“A huge congratulations goes out to the team over at Sucker Punch for creating such a wonderful game, a true testament to their passion as developers and commitment to their fans,” a Sony spokesperson wrote in a blog post. “And a great big thank you to all of you who picked up the game and have shown us how you enjoy your powers.”

Infamous: Second Son is the third game in the superhero franchise. This time it has a character named Delsin Rowe bounding around Seattle and using his smoke powers. With more than a million players already into the game, Sony is now looking forward to selling those customers bonus content that they can enjoy whether or not they beat the game both as a good and evil Delsin.

“There is still more Second Son to come,” reads the blog post. “If you’ve finished both playthroughs and are still looking for more ways to play, we encourage you to check out Infamous Paper Trail, the free bonus content that continues to expand on the Second Son universe.”

Paper Trail is a six-week-long episodic story that brings additional missions into the game. It will also shine some light on some leftover mysteries from the core experience. Part four of six will debut this week.

Infamous is the first major triple-A release for the PlayStation 4 this year. It is also the game that got to go up against the Xbox One’s hotly anticipated sci-fi shooter, Titanfall, from publisher Electronic Arts. That game, which debuted on Xbox One and PC on March 11 and Xbox 360 on April 8, was grabbing headlines and gamer attention for much of the year. Sony is likely happy to find out that the hype for Titanfall didn’t seem to slow down its big exclusive.

EA hasn’t provided any numbers for Titanfall yet. We’ve reached out to the company, but it is currently in a quiet period due to its upcoming Q4 financial report. It’s unlikely we’ll hear anything concrete about Titanfall’s performance until then.
