Updated at 6:15 p.m. — PSN is now working for most people.
Sony’s online gaming service experienced some issues Wednesday evening.
Dozens of gamers took to Twitter to complain about not having access to the PlayStation Network, the Internet service that enables online multiplayer and more on PlayStation consoles. Sony’s help site was also having issues, but it is working now. The website downdetector.com revealed a significant spike in PSN connection issues within the last hour, but those problems have since abated.
We’ve reached out to Sony for more information about what happened, and we’ll update this post when we hear more.
This outage was preventing many gamers from getting online to play multiplayer games like the newly released shooter Battlefield: Hardline from publisher Electronic Arts. It was also causing trouble for people who need to sign into third-party servers to play primarily single-player games, as well.
Additionally, people were having issues connecting to Netflix and other video services.
